Norvel Goodlow-Smith 84 of Abilene received her heavenly crown at her home Thursday May 5, 2016. A Celebration of life service will be held Tuesday May 10, 2016 at Macedonia Baptist Church located at 608 N. 7th. A visitation will also be held at the church Monday May 9, from 5-7pm. Norvel Goodlow was born December 26, 1931 in Austwell TX to the parentage of James and Annie Goodlow. Norvel Moved to Abilene at an early age and attended Woodson elementary. Norvel Graduated from Woodson High School in 1951. Soon after high school she enrolled in Beautician School, and moved to Houston to began a career in cosmetology. After graduating in 1953 she moved back to Abilene and that's when she met the Love of her life Mr. James Smith Sr. and they were married July 16, 1955. Mrs. Smith Worked as a beautician in Abilene for many years. In 1967 Norvel was employed with the Abilene State School and would retire after 27 years of employment. After retirement Norvel would spend her time volunteering at the church in many different roles. She loved her family and even more so, she loved God. Norvel sang in the Macedonia Church Choir, she directed the Youth Choir, and was on the Usher Board. Left to cherish her memories is Husband of 60 years James "Smitty" Smith Sr. of Abilene daughter Shelia Smith of Abilene, sons James Smith Jr. and his wife, Maryann, of Mansfield TX, and Edwin Smith of Abilene, 4 grandchildren Marcus Smith, Viktorya Smith, Gina Anderson and Greg Anderson. Sister in-law Queen Esther Goodlow of Dallas, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Norvel was preceded in death by parents, sisters Ann Shirley Christman, Louise Collins, and brothers Charles A. Goodlow, and Theodore Goodlow.
