Ocie Lee Herring, affectionately known to all as "Mother Herring", transitioned from earth to glory Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the young age of 103. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday March 7, 2015 at 11:00am at the Faith Deliverance Community Church located at 5501 US 277, burial to follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, with Elder Jerry Jordan as the Eulogist. A visitation will be held Friday March 6, from 6-8pm at the Church. Mother Herring, was born August 19, 1911 in Ennis TX to the parentage of Charlie and Ester Mitchell. Her family moved from East Texas to Coleman when she was a child and she later graduated from high school in Corsicana. Mother Herring and her first husband Edward Brown relocated to California where she would attend Beauty School and start a career in cosmetology. When she moved back to Texas, she still had family in Coleman and thought about moving there, but instead moved to Abilene in 1961 to open a beauty shop. In 1965 she bought a vacant lot on Cockerell Drive and had a house built, complete with a beauty shop. In 1969 she married Harold Herring. Mother Herring never had children, but served as a "MOTHER" to every child she met. Herring's faith has been part of her life since she was a child, growing up in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She later joined the Church of God in Christ being a founding member of the Faith Deliverance Community Church in 1985. She served faithfully as "Mother" of the church, a district missionary and in numerous other positions. Preceding her in death are both parents, first husband Edward Brown, second husband Harold Herring, and cousin Erner Jewel White. Left to cherish her memories are cousins Richard and Mickey Holloway of Abilene, Shirley Robinson and Angela Holloway of Coleman, Deborah and Lee Pilot of Fort Worth, Jacqueline White and Michael White of California, Elder Jerry and OrethaJordan of Abilene, her Faith Deliverance Church family, extended family and many friends. Funeral Services are under the direction of Dove Funeral Home.
