Esmegil Gonzales "Monty", 90 of Abilene passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017, in Merkel. A family Visitation will be held Friday at 1:00pm at Galilee Bapitst Church Anex located at 1011 Briarwood with a Graveside service to be held at 2:30pm at the Abilene City Cemetery.
Monty was born February 13, 1927 in Franklin, Texas to parents Alexander and Estelle Gonzales.
Monty spent his growing up years traveling with his family as a migrant cotton worker, until they settled in Abilene, Texas. He started construction work at Dyess Air Force Base, eventually becoming a Master Carpenter with his own business. He contracted for the biggest builders in Abilene before retiring to Sioux City, Iowa. Monty then returned to Texas in 2013.
Monty is preceded in death by his parents; daughter; Olga Gonzales, son; James Gonzales, and a great-grandson Nick Acosta.
Left to cherish his memory are sons: Tony Gonzales of Abilene; Alex Gonzales of Abilene; and Michael Gonzales of Denver, Colorado; daughter: Mary Park of Kansas City, MO; sister; Janie Ortega of Abilene, 17 Grandchildren and over 20 Great-grandchildren.
