Obituary

Mary Helen Routt, lovingly known as "Lena," passed away peacefully on the morning of December 8, 2025, at the age of 63. Funeral services will be held Saturday December 13, at 1pm at the Brady Methodist Church with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery Visitation will be held from 11:30-1pm at the church prior to the service. Mary was born on February 1, 1962, in Brady, Texas, where she was raised and rooted her life in faith, family, and service to others. Mary Helen pursued her passion for working with children by studying Child Development at Cisco Junior College, later earning her Child Development Associate Degree. She devoted many years to the Brady Head Start program, where she served as Director and touched countless young lives with her kindness, patience, and dedication. She also worked as the cook at the Sheffield Nursing Home in Brady, lovingly preparing meals and building meaningful relationships with residents. In addition, she served the elderly as an in-home health provider, offering compassion, comfort, and companionship. As a teenager, Mary Helen met the love of her life, Melvin Charles Routt, and together they built a beautiful life grounded in love and loyalty. They married on September 23, 1983 and shared a lifelong bond filled with laughter, partnership, and devotion to their family. Mary Helen was the proud mother of two strong and independent sons, Charles Routt and Jodie Junior Routt, whom she raised with unwavering love and fierce determination. When her sons began families of their own, Mary Helen embraced her role as grandmother-known affectionately as Meme-with open arms. She played a significant role in helping to raise her grandchildren, offering guidance, comfort, and a love that will never be forgotten. A devoted member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Mary Helen served faithfully as the church bookkeeper. Her relationship with her Lord and Savior was the foundation of her life. She spoke of Him often, shared her faith openly, and lived each day with gratitude and grace. Mary Helen had a joyful spirit and a heart of gold. She was known for her generosity, her humor, and her ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. She enjoyed simple pleasures-her favorite snacks (especially cheese balls, chocolate-covered cherries, and truly any sweet treat!)-and she loved spending time with family and friends playing Pitty-Pat, and Chalupa (BINGO). She also cherished her beautiful collection of teacups and tea sets. Left to cherish her memories are Husband Melvin Charles Routt MC, son: Melvin Charles Routt Junior and wife Jessica of Round Rock TX, daughter in law Jennifer Routt, grandchildren: Charlie Routt, Katerina Egan, Donovan Routt, Jodie Routt Jr, Chace & Kelsey Tomlinson, Cameron & Jaci Tomlinson and great grandson Creed, and Briley & Heidi Tomlinson.
