Karen D. Hawthorne of Brownwood passed away June 23, 2025 in Brownwood, TX Funeral services will be held Saturday July 5, 2025 at 1pm at Awaken Church with burial to follow at Greenleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday July 4, 2025 from 5-7pm at the Brownwood Funeral Home Chapel. Services entrusted to Brownwood Funeral Home. Karen Denise Hawthorne was born on July 21st, 1965 in Waco, Texas to Hoover Hawthorne and Bernice Green. She attended Brownwood High School. She believed that god was her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a faithful member of Awaken Church of Brownwood, under the teachings of Pastor Bob Smithson, until the Lord called her home on Monday, June 23rd, 2025. Many affectionately called her NeNe. Whether you knew her from Long John Silvers, McDonald's or Burger King, her energy and love was shared with every single person she came in contact with. She did not know a stranger. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Quan and Joe Hawthorne of Brownwood and Joseph Hawthorne (Patti) of San Antonio, Texas. Her grandchildren, Quan Jr, Stephon Hawthorne, Mason Adams and Omari Hawthorne. Her siblings Bernetta Hawthorne of Dime Box, TX, Emma Hawthorne, Brenda Hawthorne (Cedric), Brenda Burks of Brownwood, and Hoover and Dan Hawthorne of Dallas, TX. her partner Adrian David, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Karen was proceeded in death by her mother Bernice Green, father Hoover Hawthorne and brother Henry Hawthorne.
