Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jessie Torrez Jr. April 21, 1934 - October 3, 2025 Obituary Jessie Torrez Jr., of Brownwood, Texas, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the age of 91. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Brownwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the same location, with Pastor Emmanuel Jimenez of First Baptist Church of Gustine, Texas, officiating. Jessie was born on April 21, 1934, in Brownwood, Texas, to Jesusa and Isabel Torrez. Throughout his life, Jessie worked hard and took great pride in everything he did. He began his career at White Hallum Floral, where he developed a passion for plants and flowers. He later worked for Brownwood Floral, where his dedication earned him the opportunity to attend a specialized training program at Texas A&M University, focusing on growing and caring for poinsettias. Jessie went on to work for Weakley-Watson Hardware, where he remained until his retirement. Even after retiring, Jessie continued to share his love for nature. He often mowed lawns for others and offered advice on how to care for their plants. His own yard and flower garden were his pride and joy. After a day's work outdoors, Jessie enjoyed relaxing with a cold Keystone beer while cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Jessie will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his kind heart, and his deep love for family. His presence will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouses, Lucy Torrez and Lola Torrez; his children, Arthur Torrez, Arcina Cardenas, Delores Villapando, and Charlie Valdez; his parents, Jesusa and Isabel Torrez; and his siblings, Chavez Torrez, Ofelia Martinez, Irene Salazar, and Aruroa "Lole" Romero. Jessie is survived by his loving children, Dorothy Torrez and Marlin Salazar, both of Brownwood; his brother, Joe Torrez of Granbury; his daughter-in-law, Mary Torrez of Brownwood; and his son-in-law, Rudy Cardenas of Fort Worth. His legacy continues through his 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his love, strength, and lessons. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Brownwood Nursing and Rehab and Alpha Omega Hospice for their care and compassion during Jessie's final days.
