James Charles Garrett 74 of Abilene received his heavenly reward Monday, October 3, 2016 at Hendrick Medical Center. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday October 8, 2016 at 2:30pm at the Galilee Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis King as the Eulogist. James C. Garrett was born August 28, 1942 in Abilene TX to the parents of Earl Garrett Sr. and Ruth Naomi Isaac-Garrett. James attended Abilene Schools and graduated May 27 1960 from Carter G. Woodson High. After graduating from High School, James enrolled and attended Prairie View College in Prairie View TX. While at Prairie View College James Studied Electronic Engineering. James soon pursued his passion and began a career in Culinary Arts. Soon after finishing his education in Culinary Arts, he worked for Lavender Cafeteria for several years then he worked as a chef for the United States Air force as a Civilian Employee, at Dyess Air Force Base. James then went on to work for Sears Nursing Home as the Head Cook before retiring in 2003. In his spare time James loved to watch football, and reading. James loved to travel and go on vacation, and at any given time you could find him and his wife bargain shopping at the flea markets. James was a humble, wise, man with great integrity, who liked to socialize with people, and he would give good advice whenever given the opportunity to speak with someone, even though they may not have wanted the advice at that point and time they would still listen. James was a people person who could get along with anyone; he loved people, his family and even more so he loved God. He was a founding board member of Galilee Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years, and on the Finance committee, and was a long-time faithful member. Left to cherish his memories are wife of 51 years Jane Garrett of Abilene, daughter Sheilah Parker and husband Steven of Newport News Virginia, son Kevin King of Abilene, grandchildren Patricia Parker, Falicia Parker, Eric King, sisters Anna Garratt of Abilene, Sandra Garrett of Fort Worth, Brothers; Larry Garrett of Abilene, Clifton Wayne Garrett (Carol) of Plano, Billy Garrett (Donna) of Arlington TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
