It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Hugh "Fred" Mayfield Jr. who went to be with his Lord on September 25, 2025 at the age of 59. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday September 30, 2025 at 10:00 am at Grosvenor Baptist Church.
Fred was born on November 24, 1965 in Gatesville, Texas to Donna Faye Scott and Hugh Fred Mayfield Sr.
Fred was known for his loyalty to family and friends, his tireless work ethic and his love for animals. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and cheering on his favorite football teams, the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. He spent a lot of time fishing bass tournaments with his dad, John Thomas. Fred was a devoted son and brother and husband. Fred was always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear to those he loved.
Throughout his life, Fred had a special bond with animals. He never met a dog or cat that didn't fall in love with him. As a co-foster parent to well over 100 dogs and puppies, his lap was their favorite place to rest. He also helped transport countless animals to rescue groups all over the country, saving lives with compassion and care.
Later in life, Fred married the love of his life, Linda Mayfield. Though their time was shorter than they hoped, they built countless memories traveling and spending time with Linda's family who treated him as their own. It was during this chapter of his life, Fred experienced the happiness and peace he dreamed of.
Fred is survived by his wife, Linda Mooi Mayfield; his daughter, Jessica Mahlman and husband Craig Crawford: grandchild Hallie Crawford: step grandchild Wyatt Crawford; his parents, John and Donna Thomas, his siblings, Johnny Mayfield, wife Jamie, Cindy McGuiness, husband Robert McGuiness, John Thomas, wife Toni Thomas, and his sister, Tinya Thomas.
