Helen Ruth Powell-Thomas 74 of Arlington formally of Abilene passed away Wednesday March 5, 2014 at Arlington Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday March 12, at 11:00 am at Macedonia Baptist Church located at 608 N. 7th St. with Pastor Matthew Lubin as the eulogist. Visitation will be held Tuesday at the church from 6-8pm.
Helen Thomas was born June 18, 1939 in Calvert TX, to the parentage of Link Sr. and Oneta Powell. The family moved to Abilene TX when Helen was at a very young age. Helen received her education from Woodson and during her time there she participated in the band, Helen loved helping and caring for people so she entered a career in nursing, working for Hendricks Medical Center for over 20 years. Helen then switched her career path and worked and retired from Texas Instruments, Helen moved back to Abilene in 2002. Helen was a member of Macedonia Baptist church in Abilene TX for over 40 years where she sang in the Church choir, Vice President of the mission #2 , and was also the church secretary for many years. Helen loved sports, playing cards, also playing dominoes, she also loved to cook. Helen was a leader in her family and they would often come to her for all advice.
Left to cherish her memories are husband Parish Ary Thomas Of Fort Worth TX, son Billy Powell (Margaret Ann Lewis) of Arlington TX,. grandchildren Andrea Powell of Arlington TX, and Bryan McKeever of Abilene, Brother Link Powell Jr. of Abilene TX. Numerous Step-children, nieces and nephews, her confidant Lois Edwards, and Her Macedonia Church Family.
Preceding her in death are both parents 3 sisters Bettye Lowry, Vera Joe Munson, and Linda Sue Powell and 1 brother Johnny Powell.
