Helen Lee Jones Dunn, 84, died peacefully Saturday morning, May 3, surrounded by her family. She was born December 5, 1929 in Floyd, New Mexico, to Hazel Gordon Jones and Pete Jones. The family moved to Portales, NM, where she graduated from high school and attended Eastern New Mexico University. She married her high school sweetheart, Delbert Dunn, on February 15, 1948. They moved to Abilene in 1955.Helen was an active member of Elmwood West United Methodist Church and served on numerous boards, committees, and places of leadership. She was President of United Methodist Women and received the Lifetime Membership Pin for missions. Helen's nature was to serve and to give. In addition to her love for the church, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the United Methodist Food Pantry.Her husband of 60 years, Delbert Dunn, her parents, Hazel and Pete Jones, and one sister Betty Jones McBee preceded her in death. Two daughters, Debbi Jeter and her husband Mike of Abilene, and Dennie Treat and her husband Dave of Vernon survive her. She also is survived by a sister, Kathryn O'Donnell of Destin, Florida. Helen was an avid collector of angels but her favorite angels were her grandchildren: Jeff and Kerry Jeter of Abilene, Jennifer and Mike Trevino of Burleson, Tricia and Peter Reed of Graham, and Todd and Renee Treat of Ft. Worth. Her many other angles included her 12 great grandchildren: Austin Pittman, Colton Pittman, Madeline Jeter, Casey Jeter, Kaylee Trevino, and Emilee Trevino. Also Grace Reed, Maggie Reed , Will Reed, Samuel Treat, Timothy Treat, and Kate Treat. Service for Helen will be Friday, May 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Elmwood West United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dave Treat, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Vernon, and Rev. Ryan Strebeck , pastor of Elmwood West, will officiate. Family visitation will be Thursday, May 15, at 7:00 p.m. at 2018 Greenbriar. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the United Methodist Food Pantry, Camp New Dawn II at Camp Butman, or the Rev.
