Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend, Mr. Harold E. Word better known as "Pete" went to be with his lord and savior Jesus Christ on Thursday August 25, 2016. A service of praise and celebration will be held Thursday September 1,2016 at 11:00am at the Southwest Drive Community United Methodist Church, with Pastor Iziar Lankford as the Eulogist. A visitation will be held at the Church Wednesday August 31, from 6-8pm. Pete was born April 21, 1949 in Eastland TX to Harry and Geraldine Word. His mother and siblings later relocated to Abilene when Pete was very young. He attended Woodson elementary and then on to Carter G. Woodson High. Soon after High School Harold began working to help support his family. After working with others and mastering the trade, he founded American Roofing Co. and ran a successful business for over 40 years. Huge on family values, Pete was a excellent father, wonderful husband, supportive uncle and just an all around generous and humble man. He loved to play dominos, poker, and spades. Pete also loved fishing, playing Words with friends, and collecting coins. Pete was a Handy man and could fix just about anything. He loved cooking, especially Barbecuing for all the family events. He was a huge part of the lives of so many people and will genuinely be missed by all. He was preceded in death by both his parents, his first Wife Maria K. Word, his son Harold "Petey" Word, his sister Janice G. Bennett and brother Ronald Word. Left to cherish his memories are, his beloved wife Judy Pearson Word of Arizona, Three Daughters Vonetta Tashon Word Johnson and her husband Lamont of Pflugerville, Joslyn Meshay Word Berry and her husband Richard of Abilene, Jessica Renae Word of Abilene, daughter in law Machelle Word of Abilene. His Brothers Michael D. Word of Abilene & Harry Henry of CA. His Sisters LaVonda Vern Word Lowry and her husband Bobby of Abilene, Romie James of California & Clifton Jean Paige of Las Vegas. His 12 grandchildren Lamont Johnson II, Anthony Word, Darion Jackson, Kendrick Word, Jaylon Johnson, Bryan Word, Ryan Word, Malcolm Johnson, Jordon Word, Mario Berry, Jakobi Word, and honorary granddaughter Geralyn Word as well as a host Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Close family friends.
