Loving mother, sister, teacher, career educator, and woman of God, Gwendolyn Green Jones, 63, received her heavenly reward Monday, November 7, 2016 at Cross Country Nursing Home in Brownwood, TX and was surrounded by her family. She had a smile that could light up a room, a contagious laugh, a warm and inviting presence, and heart so full of love for everyone around her. She was someone you just wanted to be around - she always made you feel welcomed and loved. A service of praise and celebration will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 11:00am at Little Zion Baptist Church, with pastor JesseTurner as the Eulogist. A visitation will be held Friday from 6-8pm also at the church. Gwen was born March 20, 1953 in Wellington, TX, to the parents of Charlie Jackson and Lois Jernigan. Gwen grew up in Morton, TX and went on to study Elementary Education, graduating from West Texas State University in 1976. While at West Texas State University she met Tony Jones who she would marry on December 18, 1977 in Morton, TX. Gwen then moved to Brownwood, where began her love and passion for teaching. She was employed by the Texas Youth Commission, teaching at the state school for a year before joining Brownwood Independent School District. Teaching was her passion; she served as a mentor to many teachers she worked with and she loved the hundreds of students she taught and mentored over the 30+ years of her career. Whether you were her student or not, she greeted you with warm smiles and open arms every day. She had the kindest heart, a beautiful smile, and was a blessing to all who knew her. Gwen was a longtime teacher at Coggin Elementary and continued her career at Northwest Elementary before retiring. She loved her family more than anything in the world, and more so she loved God - she was a long time member of and very active in Little Zion Baptist Church. Gwen loved cooking for her family and friends, she loved sewing, shopping and loved hanging out with the girls. She had a beautiful and radiant soul. She was a fierce protector of children and welcomed any and all who she crossed paths with. We know that the first thing she heard after passing away was, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." We cannot wait to see her again. Gwen was preceded in death by parents Lois Jackson and Charlie Jackson, sister Shirley Moore, brother Lorenzo Green, maternal grandmother Jeanette Jernigan, and sister-in-law Carla Green. Left to cherish her memories and continue her legacy are son Jason Jones and wife Holly of Aledo, TX, daughter Kourtney Nelson and husband Derek of Crowley, TX; twin granddaughters Kassidy and Kyncaid Nelson of Crowley, TX; sisters, Laressa Stockton (Jessie) of Killeen, TX, Pamela Daniels of Brownwood, TX, Donna Smith (Arthur) of Dangerfield, TX; brothers, Jimmie Green (Georgia) of Arlington, TX, John Green of Brownwood, TX, Windell Green (Carolyn) of Bastrop, TX, Jerry Daniels of Lubbock, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends who loved her dearly.
