George Henry Keeney, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on January 27, 2015 at the age of 90 years old. Graveside services with full Military Honors will be held Friday January 30, 2015 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.George was born on July 22, 1924 in Boston, Ohio. One of six children to father, Henry Harrison Keeney and mother, Nellie Mae Douglas. George is survived by one sister, Dorothy Dreaden of Chatsworth, Georgia, daughters Sheri Shae Basore of Athens, Texas and Linda B. Keeney of Arlington, Texas, two sons, Timothy A. Keeney and Dale D. Keeney, both of Dallas, Texas , 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His best friend, Steve Bockenfeld, loved him like a father and was with him until his last breath. George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lloyd Keeney and Lester Keeney, sisters Marge Keeney Wintersole and Mabel "May" Keeney Priest, and children William M. Shea and Donald R. Shea.George enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 16, 1941, serving as a Survival Equipment Technician. He was a proud veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He retired on July 31, 1973 from Dyess AFB, Texas. His last position was a Squadron First Sergeant. George will be remembered as a true patriot. He was passionate about history and shared many stories with his friends from a life well lived. He loved music, crossword puzzles and camaraderie and leaves behind numerous friends and fiancés who will miss him dearly.
