Gary Don Baty, a faithful servant of Jesus Christ, was born on April 9, 1958, in Lamesa, Texas, to Bill and Sue Reid Baty. He passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, service, and love. His life was a testament to being 100% sold out for Jesus Christ. As Gary would say, "Yeah, Jesus!" On March 31, 1979, Gary married the love of his life, Mary Coffman, in Seminole, Texas. Together they recently celebrated 47 years of marriage. In 1980, they welcomed their miracle son, Jeremy Don, and from that day forward dedicated their lives to serving the Lord together. In 2007, Gary and Mary opened their hearts and home to raise two nephews, Denny and Marty Coffman. Gary faithfully served as an ordained minister, deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Vice President of the CMA Highway Disciples Katy Chapter for six years. He loved riding the roads on his motorcycle, sharing the message of Jesus with anyone willing to listen. In his later years, while living in Kerrville, Texas, Gary served alongside Roy Dugosh and Marty Coffman in the Tres Amigos TTT Cross Penny Ministry in Bandera, Texas. Together they shared Cross Pennies throughout the Texas Hill Country and beyond, always pointing people to Christ and reminding them that it simply makes cents to follow Jesus. Gary shared his faith wholeheartedly. Even after dementia took hold of him and changed him in ways that were very aggressive, but his passion for Jesus never diminished. The disease was relentless, but so was his devotion to the Lord. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Bill Baty; his infant brother, Stephen Dale Baty; his mother, Sue Lambert; his stepfather, Ernest Lambert; and his stepbrother, Carl Lambert. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Baty; his son, Jeremy and wife Shanice; and his treasured grandson, Aedan Paul of Sevierville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his stepmother, Cindy Baty of Lake Brownwood, Texas; nephews Marty Coffman of Kerrville, Texas, and Denny and Kaci Coffman of Cypress, Texas; his sister, Lana and Mark Deer of Kerrville, Texas; niece Jessica Deer of Midland, Texas; nephew Blake and Emma Deer and their son Joseph of Clifton, Texas; stepsister Teresa and Darrell Sims of Houston, Texas, stepsister Renea Lambert Bryan of Montgomery, Texas; stepbrother Ernie and Stacy Lambert of Montgomery, Texas; two aunts, Patsy and Debra; several cousins; and many dear friends. Among those closest to Gary were his lifelong friends and brothers in Christ: Jimbo Grissom, Ben Lauderdale, Dennis Reeves, Clint Stockdick, and numerous other cherished friends. Gary loved life to the fullest. Whether he was riding four-wheelers through the mountains of Colorado, cruising Texas highways on his Victory motorcycle sharing Jesus, hunting from his deer blind at the ranch for his prize Buck's that is display at their Lakehouse or admiring the sunrise and sunset, he embraced every moment. He was always looking to the eastern sky, anticipating the return of his Savior. His hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit and creativity. He enjoyed model trains, leatherworking, remote-control airplanes, and competitive skeet shooting. Life with Gary was never boring. Gary deeply loved his family. He especially cherished his niece, who affectionately called him "Wuncle Wary Waty," and his nephew Marty, whom he lovingly nicknamed "Smarty." If you were fortunate enough to be part of Gary's inner circle, you knew you were loved. He never judged others. Instead, he listened, encouraged, and stood beside those in need because he never forgot how God had transformed his own life. Throughout the years, Gary invested heavily in the lives of young people. He spent countless hours helping youth and college students grow in their faith. He drove busloads of students to ski trips, lakes, and Christian concerts, creating memories and opportunities for them to encounter Christ. Many lives were changed because of his dedication. Gary and Mary also opened their home in Stephenville to college students who needed a place to stay, providing housing without charging rent. Later, after moving to Katy, Texas, Gary continued serving others. One Sunday morning while teaching Sunday School, he noticed a young man from Africa sweating during class. Afterward, Gary asked if he was okay. The young man explained that he had walked several miles to church. Having come to America with his sister through a lottery program, he had little support, no transportation, and no job. Gary took him under his wing, taught him how to drive, helped him secure employment, and became a father figure to him. To this day, Josiah lovingly refers to Gary and Mary as his American parents. Gary truly walked the walk and talked the talk. His family finds comfort and confidence in knowing that he entered Heaven's gates and heard the words of his Savior: "Welcome home, good and faithful servant." A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Brownwood Funeral Home from 6-8pm. A funeral service will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 9am at Lake Brownwood First Baptist Church followed by graveside service at 4pm, in Seminole, Tx at Gaines County Cemetery.
