Fayrene DeBose Winn, 77, of Brownwood, passed away on November 21, 2025, in Brownwood. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 29, at 11 am. Viewing will take place 1 hour before the service, at Awaken Church, 585 West Commerce St., Brownwood, TX. Burial will follow in Brady at Resthaven Cemetery.
Fayrene DeBose Winn, lovingly known as "Fifi," was born on August 15, 1948, in Brady, Texas,
to Nola Alexander and Jacob DeBose. She grew up in Brady and attended Dunbar School,
where she began building the foundation of a life rooted in strength, compassion, and devotion.
Fayrene shared more than 50 beautiful years with her longtime partner and husband, Melvin
Winn. The two met on May 2nd many decades ago, beginning a bond that remained steady,
loving, and unbroken throughout her life. Fayrene dedicated her life to caring for others. She served faithfully in multiple nursing homes, worked as a private in-home caregiver, and extended a helping hand wherever she was needed. Her compassion and work ethic left a lasting impact on the many families she served.For decades, Fayrene made her home in Brownwood, Texas, where she lovingly raised her granddaughter, Briana Townsend, and continued to be a devoted wife to Melvin. She was a cherished member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she sang joyfully in the choir and shared her gift of music with her church family. Fayrene enjoyed traveling to visit loved ones, attending family gatherings, bargain-hunting at garage sales, and playing bingo. With a warm but straightforward spirit, she could make a friend anywhere she went. Her vibrant personality brought joy to every room, and her humor and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nola Alexander, Jacob DeBose Sr., and stepfather Alonzo Alexander Jr.; her sisters Mary Ann Hays, Melinda Alexander Menefield, and Carolyn Alexander, her brothers Alonzo Alexander and Henry DeBose; and her daughter, Alicia AnnTownsend. Fayrene leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Melvin Winn; her granddaughter, Briana Townsend; her siblings Jeffrey Alexander (Shelly), Diane Thompson (James), Jerry Alexander (Patricia), Brenda Whitehead, Debra DeBose and Jacob DeBose Jr.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly. She will be forever missed and never forgotten.
