Essie Lee Simmons-Wilson 75 of Abilene received her heavenly crown Tuesday November 4, 2014. A service of praise and celebration will be held Friday November 14, at 11:00am at King Solomon Baptist Church 1050 Minda Ln. with Pastor Nathan Barber officiating and Elder Tony Wilson as the Eulogist. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8pm at King Solomon Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Essie entered into this world March 21, 1939 in Giddings Texas to the parentage of R. A. Simpson and Savanah Jackson. Essie receiver her primary education from the Post Oak school system, Essie accepted Christ at an early age and was on fire for the lord ever since. Essie relocated to Abilene in 1956 and that's when she met the love of her life Nelson Wilson. The two were married in October of 1956 and in 1957 Nelson Joined the US Air Force. During his time in the military Essie was very supportive and took great care of the family. Essie went with Nelson to Homestead Florida on his First Assignment, then to Georgia for 2 years, after leaving Georgia they went to Fort Worth Texas for several years then to Ohio for 4 years. After moving around the United States, Essie and her family returned to Abilene in 1970 and reunited with what was then St. Paul I.M. E Church, which is now Pasadena Heights Community church. Essie was very active in the church and in the community, being a part of the Abilene Black History Committee, an active member in the Interested Citizens of Abilene North "ICAN", and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Abilene. Word from Mrs. Essie Wilson "I am here to help, and if I can bring a little joy or happiness to someone's life, then I will feel my work is worthwhile". Preceding her in death are father R.A. "Honey" Simpson Sr. and mother Savannah Simmons, and Step-father Leon Simmons. 2 sons Michael Wilson, and Nelson Curtis Wilson. Brother R.A. Simpson Jr. and sister Joyce Gross. Left to cherish her memories are husband of 58 years Nelson C. Wilson of Abilene, 4 sons Wayne Wilson of Homestead FL, Tony Wilson (Jennifer) of Atlanta GA, Eric Wilson (Jennifer) of El Paso TX, and Shawn Wilson (Janaya) of Abilene. 2 sisters Linda Harness (Calvin) of Giddings TX, and Shirley Norris of Houston TX, 18 Grandchildren, and 19 Great-Grandchildren.
