Obituary

Sis. Edythe Mae Davis transitioned peacefully from this life on her 105th birthday Friday April 8, 2016 at 7:30am, with family by her bedside. A Service of praise and celebration will be held Saturday at the Bethel A.M.E. Church at 11:00am with burial to follow at the Abilene Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 10am on Saturday at the church. Edythe Mae was born April 8, 1911 in Jacksonville FL to the parents of Eddie and Lizzie Jackson. She was 1 of 5 children. On August 15, 1933 She married the love of her life, the late Rev. Alphonso James Davis Sr. Her affiliation included various memberships over the years through the A.M.E. church. She was an active member at the Bethel A.M. E. Church in Abilene. Sister Edythe was a presiding Elders Wife for 9 years, first lady of the church, Sunday School Teacher , and Treasurer for the Trustee Board. Left to cherish her memory are; daughter Gearline Coleman of Abilene, TX, son Alphonso James Davis Jr. and daughter in-law Maureen of Bedford TX, daughter Elaine Scott and son in-law Ralph of Jacksonville, FL, grandchildren, Teresa Coleman, Regina Coleman, Cedric Coleman, Timothea Davis, Gwendolyn Davis, Deborah Davis, April Davis, Ralph Kerwin Scott, 4 great-grandchildren, her A.M.E. church family, and a host of extended family and many friends.
