Delbert Hutchings, age 89, of Brownwood, passed away on February 23, 2026, in Brownwood. Delbert, affectionately known as "Del, Hutch," was born on December 11, 1936, in Lansing, Michigan to Richard Deforest Shoebridge and Annetta Laverne Fisk Shoebridge. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy and graduated from Hospital Corps School as a Physician Assistant. His dedication to service continued throughout his life, both professionally and personally. On June 25, 1976, he married Maudella Jane Smelser in Garden City. Delbert was an active and faithful member of First Church of the Nazarene, where he served as Music Director for many years, blessing many with his leadership and love for music and ministry. He was preceded in death by his son, Wesley Raymond Hutchings II; his mother, Annetta Laverne Scriptor; his father, Richard Deforest Shoebridge; his stepmother, Nina Shoebridge; his sisters, Louise Williams, Edith Lee, Sharon Loomis, and Betty Reagan; and his brothers, Bruce Shoebridge, Deforest Shoebridge, Wesley Shoebridge, and James Shoebridge. Delbert is survived by his beloved spouse, Maudella Jane Hutchings; his son, Kermit Paul Hutchings; his stepdaughter, Samantha Jane Carroll and her special friend, Leann Preston; his grandchildren, Derrek Cole Hutchings, Dakota Chase Hutchings, Autumn Noelle Hutchings Hanning (Quinn) Michelle Diana Crooks (Blair), and Amber Marie Carroll (Bobby Hesbrook); and his great-grandchildren, Jayce Payton West, Kynlee Raigen White, Hudson Blair Crooks, Aaliyah Nicole Rey Roman-Carroll, Layla Paige Hesbrook, and Stephen Mateo Hesbrook. He is also survived by his sisters, Dolores Carlson, Vicki Loomis, Sue Kohler, Sandra Meyers (Larry), and Lorrain Pennington; and his sisters-in-law, Ruby Shoebridge Behnke, Laurie Shoebridge, and Jan Shoebridge. The family of Delbert Hutchings wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Narendra Nigalye, Gentiva Hospice, the nurses and CNA's who provided compassionate care, Chaplin Dennis Hall, and the True Life Nazarene Church family for their love and support. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Eastlawn Cemetery in Brownwood. Military honors will be rendered, and the Patriot Guard Riders will be present.
