Clara Janet Houston-Gray, 82 of Houston, formerly of San Antonio, received her heavenly crown Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at La Hacienda Nursing Facility in Houston TX. A service of praise and celebration will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016, 11:00am, Zion Star Missionary Baptist Church located at 834 Virginia Blvd, San Antonio TX, 78230. A visitation will be held at the church from 10am-11am, prior to the service. Sister Clara accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at Zion Star Missionary Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas. Clara was born on October 19, 1934, in San Antonio TX, to the parents of Bennie Will Houston Sr. and Lillie Mae Davis-Taylor. Clara received her primary education from Douglas Junior High and her high school education from Phyllis Wheatley High, graduating in 1952. After graduation, Clara attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, where she met Robert A. Gray. Clara returned to San Antonio, where they married and then to this union, Vickie was born in 1955. A few years later Clara and her husband Robert moved to Chicago and had their second child, Robert Jr., in 1963. The family then moved to Riverside CA in 1969, and there Clara worked as a Claims Adjuster for Allstate Insurance. In 1980, Clara moved back to San Antonio and worked for Ella Austin Community Center, as a counselor, for families and young women. After 16 years in San Antonio, she then moved to Houston and became a station manager for Texaco. Clara would find joy in Ceramics, Bowling, Traveling, and Cooking for friends and family. Clara was preceded in death by parents Bennie Will Houston Sr., and Lillie Mae Davis Taylor, siblings Bennie Houston Jr. and Allen Houston Sr. Left to cherish her memories are a Devoted Daughter; Vickie Karen Gray Dockery of Houston TX, a Devoted Son; Robert Ameal Gray Jr. (Shannon) of Wilmington DE, Grandchildren; Jessica Brown, Jamaal Gray, and Amber Gray, Great-Grandchildren; London Imani Raney and Jaedon Xavier Ameal Hardy, Great Grand God-Daughter, Gwenique Claraetta Williams of Redlands, CA, and a Great Grand God-Son, Antonio "Tu-Tu" Benson Jr. of Houston, TX. She leaves behind Sister Adelia Kirk (Ernest) of Brownwood TX, Brothers Melvin Houston Sr. (Georgia) of Lubbock TX, and Cecil Houston Sr. (Loretta) of Atlanta GA. She also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
