Obituary

Alan Ray Eaton, formally of Brownwood, passed from this life on December 31, 2022, at the age of 73. Graveside service will be held Tuesday January 17, 2023 at 1:30 pm at Bangs Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday January 17, 2023 from 5 -7pm at Brownwood Funeral Home. Alan was born July 26, 1949, to parents Joseph P. Eaton and Bessie Lee Stempson- Eaton of Plano, TX where he was a native. Alan received his formal education in the Plano school system. He was an enthusiast of all sports, whether watching on TV or playing, starting with playing on the sports teams in school and continuing through his adult life. He really loved playing basketball with the "young cats"; showing them he still had it. Alan ran a few marathons, broke a few records, and won ahead of those younger than himself, even into his senior years. He had a warm personality and made friends easy. He was upfront and had no problem speaking his mind or standing his ground when he needed to but did it with finesse. He would get a kick out of turning a phrase and getting a reaction from someone. Alan loved his family deeply and thought children were wonderful. He took special joy in being not only a father, but a grandfather and a great-grandfather. He had a love for the Lord, and he was used by God as an Evangelist. Alan held revivals at different churches and enjoyed sharing the word of God with his brothers and sisters in Christ. His desire was to be fully obedient in his calling and fulfill his ministry. Alan was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Eaton and Bessie Lee Stempson-Dunbar, his stepfather, Willie James Dunbar, one brother Vincent Eaton, and one son Ricky Eaton. Those who are left to mourn the loss of his presence and to remember him with deep love and affection are his wife Gwendolyn Eaton, Step-son; Robert Lee (His Partner); sister in-law LeCorya Finley, brother in-law Troy Lowery, Daughters: Terrie Lynn Eaton and Tangela Eaton; Brothers: Luther Eaton (LaShanda), Paul Eaton, and Joseph Eaton; Sisters: June Eaton, Gilda Walker (Donald), Elaine West (Harold), and his stepsister Peggy Biggins Coleman; three grandsons: Tony Roberts (Cherokee), Marcus Roberts (Jassia), Royce Thompson, three granddaughters: Gabrialla Colbert, Chrishawna and eight great grandchildren. And a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
